Meet Brenda

Meet Brenda Berg, CEO and mom, who founded Scandinavian Child and continues to lead and grow the company.
After spending several years as a management consultant, Brenda knew she wanted to find a job that allowed her more time at home and less time traveling spontaneously to meet customer needs. While pregnant with her first child, Kelly (now 10 years old), Brenda and her husband Christer discovered the Svan High Chair at a store in Stockholm. They loved the bentwood design and the practicality of being able to seat a child up to the family table, while still being able to maintain the standard function of a high chair tray. Seeing the Svan High Chair in Sweden inspired Brenda to make a change. On the very day that Kelly was born, her negotiations for the North American distribution rights for Svan were started and Scandinavian Child was launched.
The original business idea was to expand into other brands by doing what she and Christer had done with Svan; tour Scandinavia to find quality children’s products to bring to North America. It did not, in fact, work out that way. From the day Scandinavian Child launched, Brenda has been inundated with great products from around the world. Scandinavian Child’s family of products now includes innovative new products in classic Scandinavian design, timeless bassinets and changing tables from New Zealand, the innovative TORO stroller from the United Kingdom’s Micralite, the original Beaba Babycook from France, and multi-function sleep and travel products from lillébaby. Each of the products introduced to North American by Scandinavian Child must meet the company philosophy of “Designs Without Compromise.”
As a result of her involvement in the juvenile products industry, Brenda is a passionate children’s product safety advocate. She sits on the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) Board of Directors and is a voting member of two ASTM committees – setting safety standards for juvenile products. She also has met with legislators and their staffs on Capitol Hill for more consistent and viable safety standards and spoken to several groups about the importance of product safety standards and certifications. A little known fact compels her to speak out – most products are not regulated by mandatory standards.
A graduate of Georgetown University, Brenda has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Masters in Public Policy. Prior to founding Scandinavian Child, Brenda was the co-founder of TransTech Management, Inc., a boutique management consulting firm primarily focused on executive consulting for the transportation industry. Key clients included state Departments of Transportation, AASHTO, FHWA, Amtrak, and DRPA. She also has worked for the U.S. Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee and as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Education

Hi Brenda. I just found your site and was reading all some coverage online about your company and it’s products. I love hearing stories on how mom-owned businesses come about and following their success. I am an art director here in Raleigh and have a blog titled “Southern MOMentum” (or SoMo) http://www.southernMOMentum.com. We are a collaboration of GenXer moms who encourage moms to “hit their stride” (hence, the name momentum) with a witty approach to motherhood. I would love to network w/you in some way since we are both here in the Triangle… I do also sell advertising at a very affordable rate if you want to take a peek under the advertise tab. Thanks for your time. Best of luck!!
Stephanie

I need to say this! I have received BY FAR the best service I have EVER received from 2 individuals at SCI. Dawn and Natasha were fantastic. I filled out the online customer service form and no joke, within 1 hr and 45 mins of filling out that form, I received an email back telling me my package had been picked up by USPS. I’m in Canada, so this also included time to fill out the authorization form for credit payment. So your accounting department had quick turnaround as well.
Truly, they have set the bar. Maybe a day off (or two) is in order?
So instead of spending my time following up or wondering where my order is, I can type this email and spend extra time with the kiddies!
Estatically happy,
Sarah
